Let’s talk Long distance friendships

We talk a lot about Long Distance relationships but what about Long distance friendships.

Just because your friend lives five time zones or Eight state away doesn’t mean the friendship has to die and be buried.

Friendships are one of the the most beautiful parts of life. Our safe spaces, laughter and the people that tell us the truth especially when we need a reality check.

Friendship isn’t always about proximity—it’s about presence. But let’s be honest: maintaining a close bond across cities, countries, or continents isn’t always easy. Life gets busy, schedules clash, and the distance can feel well, distant.

Distance doesn’t have to mean disconnection. With intention, creativity, and care, you can keep your friendship thriving.

In this post we’ll explore practical ways to sustain long-distance friendship

Schedule Regular Check-ins

Life Gets Busy. Between work and trying to adult, days become weeks, weeks become months and months become years. Consistency keeps connection alive so planning a monthly or bi-weekly catch up is a Necessity.

Share the Little things

Don’t wait until major news to check-in. Send that meme, those encounters. Those little  mirrors the day to day chats that feels close by.

Create Shared Experience from Afar

Just because you’re apart doesn’t mean memories can’t be made. Some ideas are, watching the same movies, send surprise gifts on birthdays, play an online game or take a virtual class.

Being Honest about Gaps

Sometimes there will be quiet times, friendship isn’t perfect but mutual understanding and grace. Trying to reach instead of assuming the worst is very helpful and necessary.

Celebrate Important Dates

Birthdays, Job wins, Interviews and Rejections, Heartbreak. So mark your calendar, send a note or gift. Showing up emotionally even virtually means the world in long distance friendship.

Distance may challenge your friendship, but it can deepen it as well. Your friendship is worth showing up for again and again.

Great tips, plus gaps are not always a negative thing, depending on the friendship, sometimes it’s what makes the reconnections all the more enjoyable, with lots to reflect on and catch up on 🤗 but surprise/unexpected check-ins are also lovely.
